What to Consider When Choosing a Kitchen Sink

Whether or not you want to spend a lot of time doing dishes, having a useful and attractive kitchen sink is an essential component of any kitchen.  But, choosing a kitchen sink isn’t such an easy or straightforward task.  Kitchen sinks come in a wide variety of styles, sizes, materials, colors, finishes – and there are many different features in each style – so the possibilities are practically endless.

Ideally, you should choose your kitchen sink early in a renovation process because it may impact things like what size countertop you want, your layout design, and even your cabinetry choices.  One of the first things you should consider when choosing a kitchen sink is what features are most important to you.  If you have a certain feature that is particularly important to you, you should only look at sinks that are available with that feature.

Then, the next thing to consider is your kitchen sink size and location.  If you want a large farmhouse sink, you need to ensure you have space and appropriate cabinetry in the right locations to seamlessly integrate your sink into the kitchen design.  Do you need room and design capability for an undermount sink or will it be a drop-in sink?

Finally, what is arguably one of the most important things to consider when choosing a kitchen sink is the sink material.  Do you spend a lot of time preparing food, cooking, and doing dishes?  You may want a very large and highly durable sink.  Do you rarely cook and have certain aesthetic preferences – an enamel sink may b great for your design and lifestyle.  Some sink materials begin to show wear and tear very quickly while others are more durable and can stand up to heavy use – weigh this heavy when choosing your kitchen sink.
